TCU Global | Scholarships & Aid (2023)

TCU is committed to supporting international opportunities for all Horned Frogs through scholarships and financial aid. For full consideration for all types of awards and aid, students must complete the FAFSA. TCU’s school code is 003636.

Note that consistent with TCU’s desire to support study abroad, even students not generally eligible for need-based aid may be eligible for TCU-sponsored financial aid available for Study Abroad.

This award is open to all TCU students participating in TCU programs awarding TCU credit. The award is intended to assist with the tuition and/or program fee.

Eligibility Requirements: Program must be credit-bearing and approved by the Center for International Studies. Students must be TCU undergraduate, degree-seeking students. Priority given to students with a minimum 2.8 GPA.

Exclusions: Students receiving certain other awards, including the employee tuiton benefit or VA benefits, may be ineligible for this award.
Students may only receive the award twice, for two different programs.

Award decisions are based on essay and financial considerations. Award notifications are typically sent about 2 weeks after the application deadline.

Award: intended to support partial program fee or partial tuition

  • Summer Programs:
    • First review October 15. Additional review will take place on a rolling basis through January 31 pending funds available.
  • Fall Programs Deadline: March 15
  • Spring & Winter Programs:
    • Priority Deadline: September 15
    • Regular Deadline: October 1
    • Late Deadline: October 15 (on a funds-available basis)

How to Apply: The scholarship application is embedded in the study abroad program application. Complete a few short questions and submit a 350 – 500 word essay, responding to the prompt:Why should we invest in you?

We encourage you to speak specifically to one or more of the following:

  • Specific ideas to engage in your study abroad locale
  • A plan to study or investigate a topic or issue using your study abroad locale
  • A vision for how the experience and knowledge gained abroad will impact your future academics, career, or life
  • A challenge or obstacle you face in pursuing study abroad

These awards are open to summer study abroad students on any TCU Summer or TCU Partner Program who demonstrate financial need through the FAFSA. The scholarship is intended to assist students with summer tuition and is managed by the Office of Financial Aid.

Other Requirements: Program must be credit-bearing and approved by the Center for International Studies.

  • Submissions between Oct. 20, 2022 – Jan. 31, 2023 | Reviewed and awarded on rolling basis, pending available funds

This award is for study abroad students after they return to TCU. The Larry Adams International Experience Award is presented annually to undergraduate study abroad students who exhibit global citizenship following their time abroad by engaging in a significant project or activity that exemplifies internationalization.

This award is managed by the Center for Career & Professional Development. The Intern Scholarship Program is designed to provide scholarship assistance to students wanting to do an unpaid or low-paying (<$1,000/semester) internship in their major field, including international internships.

This award is managed by the TCU Honors College and are available to TCU Honors students studying abroad over the summer on a TCU Summer or TCU Partner Program. They cannot be used on Honors Abroad programs such as Cultural Routes, Cultural Pathways or Cultural Pilgrimages.

The University of Roehampton is offering ten scholarships each semester worth £1,500 each. Intended to support diversity in Study Abroad, the scholarships will continue Roehampton’s heritage of supporting under-represented groups in higher education. The Columbus Citizens Foundation offers scholarships to incoming study abroad students at John Cabot University in Rome (it applies to TCU in Rome participants) who have at least 25% Italian descent. Apply early. The deadline for the upcoming academic year takes place once a year.

The Gilman Scholarship Program aims to diversify the kinds of students who study and intern abroad and the countries and regions where they go by offering awards to students who might otherwise not participate due to financial constraints. The scholarship is open to U.S. citizen undergraduates who receive Federal Pell Grant funding.

FEA invests in deserving U.S. undergraduates who are least likely to study abroad, supporting students of color, community college, and first-generation college students before, during, and after they participate in education abroad programs.

  • Currently enrolled as an undergraduate at a college or university in the U.S.
  • Study abroad program must be eligible for credit at the student’s home institution
  • Study abroad program must be at least 4 weeks (28 days) in country/countries

Stipends of $500 are available for those who successfully apply to become a Diversity Abroad Overseas Ambassador. The money is put towards a Spring or Fall semester volunteering or studying abroad program. Ambassadors are expected to blog about their experiences for the Diversity Abroad community with the aim of inspiring other members to travel.

Requirements:

  • Must be enrolled full-time in, or recently graduated from, a U.S. university or college
  • Have a minimum cumulative 2.75 GPA at an accredited U.S. university or college
  • You are energetic, creative and have a passion for international engagement

Freeman Awards for Study in Asia (Freeman-ASIA) provides scholarships for U.S. undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need to study abroad in East or Southeast Asia. The program’s goal is to increase the number of U.S. citizens and permanent residents with first-hand exposure to and understanding of Asia and its peoples and cultures.
